Philippines Map & Geography

The Manila Bay is so perfectly situated that it allows complete and excellent navigation facilities to the scores of ships that move in the area while heading to and from the Manila Port. The Manila Bay is said to be one of the best-kept bays in the world and the only one that has so far been voted the best in the South East Asian region. Manila Bay is very sheltered from the weather as you can see on our Philippines map.

Mount Apo or the grandfather mountain as is commonly called in the Philippines is a volcanic mountain across the island of Mindanao. It is said that Mount Apo is a dormant volcano but the locals insist that the volcano is active and can spew out ash and lava at any time. The top of Mount Apo is a volcanic crater and at present is the home of a beautiful lake. There are no recent records that tell about the last known activity of the volcano but the locals still believe that the volcano is very much active. Philippines is an archipelago of over 7000 islands most of which are uninhabited and fragments from the bigger islands. These are tourist spots and are also being visited by locals during the holidays for picnics and social gatherings.

The Philippines have the 5th longest coastline in the world and is said to be one of the most beautiful coastline in the whole of South East Asia. There are various foreign reviews published from time to time that tell about the popularity ratings of the coastline. Most of the islands are rich in gold, copper, nickel and zinc and a lot of scientific activity is going on towards this end. It is estimated that minerals are available in abundance in these areas. There are many small and lesser-known active volcanoes around the islands. The major ones are said to be dormant for a long time. This can be understood from the volcanic soil distribution in most of these islands.

Apart from the predominance of nature and aquatic life in the islands, there are a number of tourist spots that cannot be missed by the tourist. The islands are well connected by excellent ferry services. It is not possible to visit all the islands at one go, but the guide will tell you which of the ones are worth a visit. The flora and fauna and the rare aquatic life surrounding these islands and the sea need to be seen to be believed.
